march 31 - a finish, a question & a puzzle

I spent last night finishing two small pieces. One is an exchange piece, so I will wait to share that one. The other is the ornament I finished for March in our year long SAL at Stitcher's Timeout. This was a freebie here. I stitched it on water lily jobelan with GAST thread in Holly Berry. I really like the way these colors look together and I think I may use the same colors again.

So I have a question that I am hoping someone might be able to answer. I do my finishing by hand, and I usually use invisible thread. My question is...does anyone know if invisible thread is available on cards, instead of just spools? It is not the easiest thing to work with but I keep thinking that if I could only straighten out the thread some, it might be a tad easier. I have tried ironing it, and I've also tried using these little stick things (I forget what they are called)_ that are made to straighten thread. But I guess I am too butter-fingered or something, because I could not get them to work! Anyway, on the off chance that someone might be able to help, I just thought I would throw it out there!

Now to the puzzle. A few weeks ago, in one of my groups (or maybe even more than one) there was a mention of a place in (or maybe it was Spain) that was offering free threads (3) to try their new floss. So I sent my choice of colors and promptly forgot about it. I thought someone said the offer was over or something. Anyway, the threads came in the mail today, but I am puzzled. They look identical to the DMC threads of the same color number. Not just close but identical! Two were on skeins, one was wound on a bobbin. I was wondering if anyone else took part in this offer, and if you had the same experience when you saw your threads? I thought these were supposed to be something close that you might use in a conversion, but if I took the labels off I wouldn't be able to tell them apart. Curious...

So I'm off to finish the laundry, finish the latest Monica Ferris book and maybe even do a smidgen of stitching.

Thanks for taking the time to visit!

  1. What a lovely finish. I only know about the invisible thread on spools so not sure I can help you. xx

  2. I received mine too Lynda.
The colors I picked were solids, and I received what looks like the older variegated DMC colors.

  3. Your finish is beautiful! I love that color combination, it really looks lovely together - great job!

On your question and puzzle, I have no answers. I do not use invisible thread nor did I order the floss. I hope you can find the answers!

  10. Another question...does the thread thing ya'll signed up for constitute some kind of fraud? Seems like it should and dmc should be made aware of it. And, no, I am not farther than you on our sal but stitching on it tonight.

  11. Hi,I don't know if this will help, but I use Nymo thread for finishing. It is a beading thread and very strong, but it comes in colours too. I use the cream colour a lot but have dark red, black and dark green too. It comes on spools but it is more like a 'proper' thread and doesn't twist. Irene xxx

  12. Hi Lynda; I have checked out your blog and it is wonderful! Wish mine looked so good; I am a newbie at blogging, but you can see mine at www.noahstitcher5.blogspot.com

I, too, LOVE Little House Needleworks! I think we have a lot of stitching in common.

  13. Lovely blog!! I use a lot of krenick spooled threads and I have learned a way to help straighten out those, maybe it will help with your invisible thread...but I am not at all familiar with that so........

Hold the spool in your non-dominant hand and grab the thread with your other hand. Hold the spool in the palm, like you are making a fist and rather tightly --- not too tight, but firm. Leave the thread end hanging out between two fingers. Now pull the thread with your other hand. You are wanting there to be some resistance to the pull so that the thread tightens up as you pull. Pull the length you want and cut.

This work really great on the krenicks, hope it is helpful to you.
